That random assortment of molecules is then apparent in the structure of the solid. If you freeze a liquid slowly, you have a better chance of having the molecules slow and form a very specific organization. That organization is the basis of any crystal. Even liquids like iron and nickel can form crystals if cooled slowly enough. Many meteorites have iron-nickel (Fe-Ni) crystal formations.
