Iron Pyrite

Common Name: Pyrite (Iron)
Compound Name: Iron Sulfide
Information:
Specimen Type: Sulfide
Major Elements: Iron, Sulfur
Image 1: Crystal
Notes:
This is also know as "Fool's Gold" because it is found near gold deposits and had a shiny gold luster. The bonds in iron pyrite have the iron atom (Fe) bonded to covalent pairs of sulfur (S2) atoms. These FeS2 groups combine together to build cubic shapes as seen in the picture.
